The app store text also says Character AI has millions of user-made AI Characters, custom bot creation, backstories, voices, text chat, and AI calls.

My quick take: it is best for roleplay, fan-style chat, random comfort, and story scenes. It is not the best pick if you only want adult AI romance or realistic AI girlfriend media.

Sign-Up: Fast, Simple, But Age Rules Matter

The setup did not feel hard. I made an account, added basic info, and got into the character feed fast. No long quiz. No “upload your best dating photo.” No fake match system.

You mainly need:

Character AI says users must be at least 13, or at least 16 in Europe. It has also rolled out age assurance tools, with a different experience for younger users.
